The Short and Skinny of Enchanting

Enchanting. It’s a pain in the gluteal region. I found this out firsthand when I began enchanting my Fenris Staff. I found myself doing a lot of researching … the best stones to use, whether or not to use supplements, etc. In my studies, I ran across a great list of tips by Sei of Royal Flush on Israphel regarding enchanting:

I am not going to dig up or copy and paste the entire forum post made by Mortred, but I do give him credit for the following thoughts on enchanting. The highest success rate you can get with enchanting is 80% without supplements. Lesser supps add 5%, regular (fort) supps 10%, Greater (Gelk) supps 15%. Therefore it is possible to get a 95% success rate with the proper stone + greater supps.

To achieve a 50% success rate:

  • Green : +5
  • Blue  : +10
  • Gold  : +15
  • Eternal : +25

Every +5 stone is an extra 10% success rate, or 2.5% per level of stone. For example, for a 55 eternal item, you would need to use a level 80 stone for a 50% success rate, and a 90 stone for a 70% success rate, and a 95 stone for a 80% success rate.

To make it simple, the best stones to use for Eternals are +40 levels higher and for Golds +30. It has been proven that using a stone that exceeds the max level DOES NOT hurt your success, however it will still cap at 80%.

The post he is referencing is this one by Mortred. I highly recommend checking it out, as it contains a lot of useful information. I also recommend checking out the Supplements page on the Aion Game Guide as it also contains some in depth information on enchanting as well.

I was able to get my staff +10’d using supplements. The price is high, but I wasted far fewer stones, so it was worth it in my eyes. You can judge for yourself, and if you have any enchanting tips, please feel free to share! ^_^
