Sexism and gaming

I consider myself a pretty avid gamer. My earliest exposure to gaming was on the Atari and first generation Nintendo systems. Over the years I’ve predominantly played RPG’s and FPS’s. I’d had exposure to MMO’s but never played past beta on anything until Aion. I’ve mentioned several times about the gaming community here being so much better than what I’d experienced in previous circles I’d frequented in the past. When I say that, I don’t just mean that the people are nicer … it’s just that MMO’ers tend to be more accepting, maybe more “adult” than other gaming communities.
Katherine Field (Trine) posted a retweet earlier this morning to an article on Kotaku about this site: Not in the Kitchen Anymore. Grown out of an art project, Jenny Haniver catalogs and publishes audio recordings and transcripts of some examples of what she’s encountered when gaming online. While the majority of the subject matter on the site is from guys, there are also some posts about other gamer girls she’s run into.
While comical (to me anyways) it reminds me why I’ve enjoyed playing Aion. While I’ve had my share of “Oh hey, your toon is hawt. Do you look like that IRL?”, overall, people are nicer and more mature here.
So ladies (and gents, if you want to answer as well!) I ask you: What’s your experience been like?

i play with boy toons, everyone assume im a guy cause of that but i tend to get a lot of WTF when they realize im a girl & i know how to play

As a girl playing boy toons…varied. Made fun of sometimes, had some girls instantly hate me for not being girly, and made awesome friends.

i play Shaiya and its a MMORPG & the characters on there (mainly the women) are very busty & the gears are very revealing
